Pleasanton is a city in the Californian county of Alameda. It is a suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area's East Bay district, located in the Amador Valley. At the time of the 2020 census, the population was 79,871. The Census Bureau ranked Pleasanton the wealthiest middle-sized city in the United States in 2005 and 2007. Pleasanton is home to the headquarters of Safeway, Workday, Ellie Mae, Roche Molecular Diagnostics, Blackhawk Network Holdings, and Veeva Systems. Kaiser Permanente, Oracle, and Macy's are among the other prominent employers. Despite the fact that Oakland is the county seat, a few county offices are situated in Pleasanton. Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park is located on the western limits of the city. The Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton host the county fair during the final week of June and the first week of July. Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park is situated on the western limits of the city.
An older community in the area was called Alisal before Pleasanton was established in the 1850s. It was built on Rancho Santa Rita property surrounding the Francisco Solano Alviso Adobe, known as El Alisal (The Sycamores), which was one of the first houses built in the region in 1844. It still stands as the focal point of the Alviso Adobe Community Park. Alisal, dubbed "The Most Desperate Town in the West," was one of the communities along La Vereda del Monte that served as a haunt and sanctuary for bandits and desperados in the years after the start of the California Gold Rush. Shootouts on Main Street were not uncommon. Banditos like Claudio Feliz and Joaquin Murrieta would assault prospectors returning from the gold rush fields and take sanctuary in Alisal. Procopio, Narciso Bojorques, and others sought safety there in the 1860s. Pleasanton is located on the Rancho Valle de San José and Rancho Santa Rita land concessions in Mexico. John W. named it after a buddy, Union army cavalry Major General Alfred Pleasonton. Kottinger, an Alameda County justice of the peace, in the 1860s. The present spelling appears to be the result of a misspelling by a recording clerk in Washington, D.C.
Pleasanton served as the setting for the 1917 film Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, starring Mary Pickford. Radum facility was a sand and gravel facility built by Henry J. Kaiser Co. in 1931 at the Radum railroad station, one mile east of Pleasanton.

Pleasanton DMV
Department of motor vehicles in Pleasanton, California
In 1901, California legislation allowed all municipalities and counties in the state to grant licenses for bicycles, tricycles, automobiles, horse carriages, and other wheeled vehicles. By 1905, it was evident that California needed a statewide car registration system, so the Secretary of State (SOS) was tasked with the responsibility. From 1905 until 1915, the SOS handled car registrations, until Senator E. Birdsall introduced the formal car Act of 1915, which established an official DMV. Vehicle registrations had risen to 191,000 in California alone by that year. The authority and functions of the DMV were moved to the Division of Motor Vehicles, which was part of the Department of Finance, in 1921. This action demonstrated that the government was beginning to recognize that the DMV might generate cash. DMV had established a separate agency by 1931.

Pleasanton Library
Pleasanton Public Library is located in Alameda County, California, and serves the city of Pleasanton. The library is located at 400 Old Bernal Avenue, in downtown Pleasanton. Pleasanton Women's Improvement Club was established in 1908 to improve the community of Pleasanton, an agricultural town in the "Tri-Valley" region east of San Francisco. Their initial endeavor was to create a reading area. They acquired a location for the Reading Room using $1,100 earned during a "Old Maid's Convention" and other events. It first became accessible to the public in 1909. A librarian was recruited for $10 a month and books were given. Mrs. Phoebe Apperson Hearst and her companion, the Consul of Persia, were honored guests for the official opening.
Pleasanton's original city hall was built in 1915, and the city leased a piece of it to the club for $1 per year to house the library and reading room. Pleasanton's library has expanded to keep up with the city's transformation from an agricultural village to a suburban residential neighborhood and one of the East Bay's sophisticated corporate hubs. In 1964, the library was admitted as a full member of the Alameda County Library system. The necessity for expansion drove the library to a new 6,900-square-foot (640 m2) building on Black Avenue in 1973, with around 35,000 volumes. The community identified the need for a larger library in 1987, and building on the current 30,000-square-foot (2,800 m2) facility began in 1988. In 1999, the City of Pleasanton resigned from the Alameda County Library system to establish a municipal library in reaction to major financial losses caused by California's "Educational Revenue Augmentation Fund."Library use has more than quadrupled since then, with over 1.1 million items checked out in calendar year 2005."
